Synopsis
An ambitious European co-production that recreates the exploit of Magellanes, the Portuguese sailor who captained the expedition that sailed around the world in 1519. His goal was to reach the East Indies and for this he had 237 men. He wanted to make Christopher Columbus’ dream come true. Three years later, only 18 men returned, but they had succeeded in circumnavigating the world for the first time.
One of the 18 survivors, the Italian Antonio Pigafetta, brought with him a handwritten book in which he had recorded every day of this fabulous odyssey. Other letters and eyewitness accounts, and maps of the time allow us to look back and bring to life one of the most extraordinary maritime adventures in history.
Actor José Coronado is the narrator of this four-episode documentary series that has been filmed in various locations around the world recreating this great maritime adventure that has been 500 years in the making. The film crew has traveled to the Guadalquivir River in Spain, Guanabara Bay, Mar del Plata in Argentina, the Strait of Magellan, India, Palawan in the Philippines and the Moluccas Islands in Indonesia. In addition, animation has been chosen to recreate the historical sequences and bring the characters to life. Illustrator Ugo Bienvenu has been chosen for this purpose.
